I was surprised to see the various stages of this thistle all on one plant at the same time. The starter background layer for this photopainting was the canvas I painted with gesso slashes over acrylic in the picture below.

I love thistles...I'd grow a lawn full of them, but some narrow minded folks think they are not flowers but weeds.
