This is the progress of my first crochet poncho as well as my first self-portrait of the year :). I modified a knit pattern beyond recognition as I was unable to follow the instructions and convert to crochet. My main idea was to crochet the poncho in the round as I'm horrible at joining, hence the reason I freecycled the over 100 granny squares I'd crocheted when I first got hooked ;). I'm not sure if this will turn out as I don't know when I should stop the increases and make it hang nicely. It's a gift for my niece who isn't expecting it, so no problem if I tear it apart and make a lapghan instead. lol
I've linked this post with Creative Every Day 2012, W.I.P. Wednesday at The Needle & Thread Network and [in the picture] a self-portrait journey 2012. Hope you'll check them out.

Yay! It is good to see you crocheting again. I hope that means you are feeling better.
Good for you. I don't think I would get as far as you have got:)
Thanks Melissa. No contact dermatitis as of yet, so I'm able. Just thinking about crocheting lately and my hands would break out in blisters.
Thanks Mary Ann. Many curse words aimed at my declining cognitive abilities, but I gave myself a break and decided to wing it. lol

What a great gift, I love ponchos.
Here's hoping it really becomes one Kathryn. Thanks for stopping by :).

It is looking great so far Michelle, good luck finishing it and I am sure the gift will be well received.
Looks to me lie the poncho is progressing as it should. I am always recreating articles, whether crochet or quilts to suit my needs. Currently working on a top that did not seem to have any free patterns on the internet so I too am improvising...
Thanks Sheila :).
Thanks Susan. Good luck with your top. I'm always adapting patterns or just making my own too.

Your poncho's looking great, Michelle. Do you know the February Lady Sweater? You can find it in ravelry. You start at the neckline and increase out (just the way you're doing your poncho) and when you get just below the shoulders, you stop increasing. It's a lace pattern and it hangs very nicely. Your niece is going to love it!!
Thanks Cheryl. I had forgotten all about my query on Ravelry. lol Well, I'm below the shoulders already and I'm afraid if I stop increasing too soon that it will be a giant tube and she won't be able to lift her arms. lol I'm planning on making it to the top of the thighs with about 6" fringe. I'll post a pic upon completion which could be awhile.
